Design engineer and cyclist Trevor Jarvis set up TJ Cycles in 1979, whilst running a small engineering company in Burton on Trent. Later moving to Tenbury Wells in 1984 where he continued to build frames until 2015.
During this time Trevor built over 600 Flying Gate frames, dedicating over 35 years to this wonderful piece of British cycling history,
In 1996 Trevor was awarded the prestigious “Frame Builder of the Year” by the Institute of Cycling Engineers.

As an avid cyclist and one of the UK’s leading artist-blacksmiths, Chris brings 29 years of experience manipulating metal to his bike frame building.
Soon after his decision to become a bespoke bike frame builder in 2016, he took a course with The Bicycle Academy
Since closing his forge, Chris has dedicated his time to building bike frames under the Smithy Frame Works brand he set up in 2017 and in 2019 was awarded the Single Track Magazine prize at Bespoked for his Enduro bike frame.
In 2021 he took over the ownership of TJ Cycles but continues to liaise with Trevor on all things Flying Gate.
At the time of writing, he has built over 60 bespoke hand-built frames.
